Caveat Lector
Dear Reader,
This is a work of complete fiction. It is based on Victor Hugo's Les Misérables, inasmuch as the premise will allow. If one has not read Les Misérables, it should make its own internal sense. If one has read it, it may be completely contrary to the way one understood the relationships between the characters in the book, and may take some suspension of disbelief at first. However, we hope that we have constructed it in such a way that no great suspension is necessary for too long.
You should not read this story if:
-- You are mentally immature or unable to deal with certain types of romantic relationships between characters who do not exist. If you are twelve, this may not be the best reading material for you, and we suggest that you seek elsewhere for something more suited to your stage of development. If you read this and flout the warning, and your parent finds out, we did warn you.
-- You subscribe to a strict interpretation of literary texts. We do not, and our lack of careful adherence to 'what the author really meant' is the essence of this site. We do not think that M. Hugo would approve, but it amuses us. His work is out of copyright, so the only laws we are breaking are those of respect for authorial intent. We apologize for any inconvenience.
-- You subscribe to any belief about other people's sexual behavior that can be summarized as 'Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.' If this is the case, we suggest that you leave immediately, because we violently disagree with you.
If you do not fall into any of these categories, please enjoy reading this site, and do send us a letter telling us what you think -- even if you think we are mad.
Sincerely,
The Authors
